Privacy Policy
VUMI® is committed to protecting any personal information that you may provide to us. In particular, we believe it is important for you to know how we treat information about you that we receive from this ePortfolio service.
Recipients of an ePortfolio and artifact verifiers
1. VUMI® provides a tracking facility for its Premium members in the form of a report of a recipients viewing, listening and downloading activity, during the visit to an ePortfolio site. This information helps the member gauge where interest in their content is directed and may help in making a more effective ePortfolios in the future.
2. When visiting an ePortfolio site, an additional record of a visit is logged but is not made available to the member. The following information is supplied by your browser, and may be recorded by VUMI® for statistical purposes and trend analysis and used to help improve the ePortfolio service:
- user's server address
- user's operating system (for example Windows, Mac etc)
- user's ISP
- date and time of the visit to the site
- pages accessed and the documents downloaded
- type of browser used
3. VUMI® does not collect personally identifiable information through the viewing or use of an ePortfolio. Simply put:
- we will not collect personally identifiable information like your name or e-mail address ("Personal Information") without your knowledge and permission
- we will not disclose your Personal Information to third parties unless you have authorised us to do so
- we will take reasonable steps to protect the security of the Personal Information we collect from you
- we will not send you any unsolicited mail.
4. When you submit your email address as part of feedback or as a verifier of artifacts:
- we will record your name and email address
- we will only use your name and email address for the purpose for which you provided it, that is, for communication with the member who has sent you a link to the ePortfolio
- we will not disclose it without your consent, except where we may be required by law to disclose certain information
- you are entitled to have access to any personal information relating to you which you have previously supplied to us through this site. If you wish to make an enquiry regarding any personal information relating to you which may be in our possession, please contact us using our contact details below.
5. The process of verifying an artifact relies on contact being possible with the verifying person by recipients of ePortfolios into the future. A potential verifier will be asked to agree to the Terms and Conditions. The Terms and Conditions document clearly states that by verifying an artifact the verifier agrees that they can be contacted by future recipients of ePortfolio mail-outs wishing to confirm details of their relationship with the member and more about the item involved.
6. Links are provided in emails sent to recipients and potential verifiers for the purpose of opting out of receiving further messages from a member. When clicked:
- the member is sent an automated email asking that they not send any further ePortfolios or verification requests to that individual
- the member is notified that should VUMI® receive a complaint that an individual's privacy request has been ignored than it will take further action which could include the suspension of a membership account
- any previously verified artifacts linked to that member account by the opting out individual will lose their verified status.
Members
1. For the purpose of improving a member's experience of the application, VUMI® may use Local Shared Objects (LSOs) to persist data across multiple user sessions (e.g. the storing of login credentials). LSOs are the Adobe Flash player equivalent of a cookie. LSOs can be used to store data in a file on a user's computer. The default storage location for LSO files is operating system-dependent. LSO files are typically stored with a ".SOL" extension, within each User's directory. LSOs are not temporary files. Users can opt-out of them on a per-site basis by right-clicking the Flash player and selecting 'Settings', or can opt-out globally by using the Global Storage Settings panel of the online Settings Manager at Adobe's website.
2. Institutional administrators using a login for managing licences will have a cookie loaded to their computer. VUMI® does not collect personally identifiable information through the this cookie. Simply put:
- we will not collect personally identifiable information like your name or e-mail address ("Personal Information") without your knowledge and permission
- we will not disclose your Personal Information to third parties unless you have authorised us to do so
- we will take reasonable steps to protect the security of the Personal Information we collect from you
3. VUMI® may use Google Analytics or similar services for tracking trends of website traffic. These services require the placement of cookies to perform these functions.
4. Email communications regarding the status of your account and about offers regarding the VUMI® service will be sent from time to time. Emails sent regarding the status of your membership account are a part of the VUMI® terms & conditions of the service and there will be no opt-out facility provided. Any emails sent of a marketing nature will contain a link for the purpose of opting-out of future offers.
5. Other Services Offered. From time to time, VUMI® will provide other services eg searchable data bases linked to ePortfolio services and users. These searchable databases are administered by independent third parties from VUMI® for specific purposes by the third parties. Third Party administrators may distribute access (login details) to other parties. Users of VUMI® will need to agree with the Third party regarding the privacy of their information and how it will be accessed, protected and used by the Third party.
