About us
Vumi® is a joint venture between the Creative Industries Skills Council and Dynamic Motion Multimedia. The vumi™ ePortfolio was initiated through seed funding from the Queensland Government (Arts Queensland).
VUMI® History
- Passport is an initiative announced as part of Arts Queensland Arts Culture + Me: Children and Young People in the Arts Action Plan 2008-2011 (“the ACME Plan”) launched at the Edge in Brisbane on 11 April 2008.
- The Creative Industries Skills Council has been engaged to develop the model, pilot it with schools and develop a plan for further development including costings for future rollout.
- A period of consultation with stakeholder groups was commenced including the establishment of a steering committee to guide the Terms of Reference for the project.
- An environmental scan was conducted to research the current availability of resources that would be suitable for this project.
- Dynamic Motion Multimedia (DMM) were approached to discuss options for using a tool that they had previously developed, the DPK, to develop a prototype tool for the Passport Project. DMM agreed to allow the use of the DPK as a base tool for the purposes of this project.
- Stakeholder groups were approached to form focus groups which would guide the pilot program. The groups who agreed to participate were:
• The Queensland Academy for the Creative Industries,
• Kenmore State High School,
• Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE, and
• Eight schools from the Gold Coast who were participating in a project for students wanting to establish careers in the visual arts. The students were part of a Local Community Partnership (SCISCO) project running over 4 months. - Four focus group meetings were held with twenty students in each group giving a total of eighty young people aged between 15 and 30 years old.
- During the period of the trial, further consultations were made with stakeholder groups to gain their feedback and comments regarding the long term viability of such a tool to their stakeholder groups.
- Information gained in focus groups, trials and stakeholder conversations used in the scoping and building of the product.
- Marketing and branding exercise undertaken. Product name of VUMI™ is chosen.
- Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT) runs VUMI™ trial with both music and music business students, Creative Industries teachers and RPL team.
- Wide Bay Institute of TAFE undertake trial with Visual Arts students.
- MSIT students successfully complete trial with outstanding results. Students results were visually exciting, as against a paper resume which is not the ideal medium to demonstrate capabilty and talent. Students traditionally struggled with the previous paper based assignment but found the task of constructing a VUMI resume engaging, effective and easy to complete. This was evident in the early submission of task to teachers.
